Jason Plato will drive a SEAT Sport UK entered Toledo Cupra at the FIA European Touring Car Cup at Vallelunga, near Rome in Italy, on 16 October.

The special invitation race meeting is for FIA Super 2000 and Super Production cars which compete in national championships (in the Baltic States, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Italy, Russia, Sweden, UK ) or run in the FIA World Touring Car Championship as an independent (non-manufacturer) entry. Jason will compete in two 50km back-to-back races for the FIA S2000 Cup, which will be broadcast live on Eurosport.

Six SEAT Toledo Cupras are on the FIA European Touring Car Cup entry list. Along with Jason’s SEAT Sport UK entry, others have been received from Alessandro Balzan (SEAT Italy/ScuderiaGirasole), Michel Nykjaer (SEAT Denmark), Ari Laivola (SEAT Finland/Sarlin Race Team), Tom Coronel (SEAT Holland/GR Asia) and James Kaye (GR Asia). All cars will race on Yokohamas –the control tyre of the 2006 FIA World Touring Car Championship.

Jason said: “We used to go winter testing at Vallelunga and it’s a great circuit. It will be interesting to drive the Toledo Cupra on different tyres, I’m not sure who else will be on the grid and there are a few other unknowns as well, but we’ll be going there to try and win and bring back a European title. My philosophy is when in Rome, do like the Romans do – so I’ll be looking cool, talking to pretty women and eating ice cream. At least I’m quite good at doing two of those things!”

Scott Dennis, SEAT Sport UK Motorsport Manager, said: “We’re pleased to be representing SEAT at this event. We’ll have a very limited amount of time to get used to the Yokohama tyres, but I’m sure Jason’s experience and skill will enable him to quickly get used to the car and find a good set-up. Obviously we’re going to Italy with the intention of bringing back some silverware.”

Jaime Puig, SEAT Sport Director, said: “It looks to be a great event and I'm really looking forward to going to Vallelunga and supporting our drivers. SEAT will be well represented with all of our drivers fighting to win, although obviously Jason and Tom Coronel have the most experience. Jason is one of the top touring car drivers in Europe and he has a very good chance to fight for the title.”
