Andy Lally is a 29-year old New York native who has competed in ALMS since 1999. In 2003, Lally has taken six pole positions in the Hazardous Sports-Zip Racing Porsche 911 GT3 RS. In the Grand American Series, Lally won the 2001 Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona in the SRP2 class as well as the class championship that same year. This season, Andy is competing in the No. 13 Race Car Company/Lola B2K/40/Millington in the ALMS P2 class. Mid-Ohio marked the entry of his team with an impressive second place class finish. Andy is also leading in points in the No. 38 TPC Racing Superchargers/Ajilon Porsche 911 GT3 in the Rolex Grand American SGS class. Despite Lally’s busy racing schedule, Andy managed to defend his streetluge title in the 2004 "King Of the Hill" US Nationals in the unlimited streetluge division and the classic (spec) luge this past April.

What is your favorite track?

AL: Tough call, Mid Ohio just edges out Mt Tremblant.

Describe the dynamics of your team.

AL: The ALMS team that I race for is called Race Car Company, it is owned by James Cooke and Jason Dunken. My co driver is Ryan Eversley and the team is based just outside of Athens Georgia in a town called Watkinsville. We are running a Lola Millington and we were able to finish on the podium in 2nd place in the teams first ever race last weekend.

Which track(s) benefit yourP2 car?

AL: I have to say the tighter courses benefit our car the best because of how light we are and how well it handles.

What are the pros and cons of competing in the ALMS P2 class?

AL: There really are not any cons, I would like to see more teams get involved of course but other than that it is a very fun class.

How long have you been competing in ALMS?

AL: I have done at least one race in the ALMS since its first season

What are your career highlights (ALMS, Rolex, etc)?

AL: I won the SRP2 class in the 24 Hours of Daytona in 2001 with Arch Angel Motorsports and went on to win the championship that year as well. I was on Team USA in 1999 as well as in the Team Green Academy in 96 and 97. 2002 and 2003 I competed in ALMS, Rolex Grand Am and Grand Am Cup with 26 podium finishes. 2004 highlights so far include currently leading the points championship with my teammate Marc Bunting in the Rolex Grand Am SGS Class with one pole position, a class victory at the 6 Hours of Watkins Glen and two fastest race laps, two track records and five podium finishes.

Besides racing, what other activities keep you busy?

AL: I am a new home owner and that is keeping me very busy, I moved from Long Island New York to Dacula Georgia, just north of Atlanta and just a few exits south of Road Atlanta. I like to play almost every sport imaginable and also race streetluge as a hobby.

Do you have a diet/workout routine?

AL: If so, what is it? I have a fairly strict diet and workout routine, I run, ride and kayak a lot to keep fit.

How did you get involved in racing?

AL: When I was three years old, my neighbor had a go kart, it is one of my first memories and the first time I saw it I knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
SH: Can you give any advice to children who want to become pro drivers?
AL:Start go karting as soon as you can. Learn about more than just driving as well, understanding vehicle dynamics is important to helping yourself go faster.
