Rolex 24 at Daytona qualifying sessions have concluded at Daytona International Speedway. Timo Bernhard drove the No. 47 Querencia Golf Club, Los Cabos/ TruSpeed Motorcars/ Wright Motorsports Porsche Riley to the tenth position. The No. 47 team will start ninth when the sixth-quickest car incurred a post-qualifying penalty for ride height and their time was disallowed.
Bernhard took a cautious approach to qualifying when the session was black flagged to clear debris caused by a crash just as the first round got underway.
“When we went out for qualifying, we were the fourth car in line – we were all around the quick cars, the good cars,” said Timo Bernhard. “Everybody looked for a little gap to get their three or four laps in. When I saw that they were trying to race each other, I was kind of surprised. The car right in front of me, the No. 60 spun out – we were nearly next to each other. When he hit the tire wall and brought out the black flag, I immediately called the team on the radio and told them I wasn’t going to get back in line because this is a gamble – these guys are racing. I went back into the pits and let everybody go and waited for a clear spot – I nearly had it until the last corner when I got held up.”
The No. 47 Querencia Golf Club, Los Cabos/ TruSpeed Motorcars/ Wright Motorsports Porsche Riley team elected to sit out the morning practice session on Friday due to a scheduled engine change. The No. 47 team will be back on track for the final 45 minute practice session scheduled for Friday afternoon.
